2019 Feasibility of Rigid Pavements in Village Roads: Eskipazar Example

The pavements used in highways are divided into two classes as rigid and flexible. Both types of pavements are used in different ratios in countries around the world and in our country. Rigid pavements called concrete roads have not been yet applied on the roads in the responsibility network of General Directorate of Highways except for a few test sections. Applicability of roller compressible concrete (RCC) pavements, a rigid type of superstructure, on village roads is evaluated. The RCC plate thickness was determined using the design principles of ASSHTO 1993 and empirical formulas and the values calculated by the Streetpave software were confirmed. In addition, in the light of the data obtained from the Special Provincial Administration of Karabük, comparative economic analyzes were conducted between the surface pavements currently used on village roads (surface treatment) and the RCC pavements which are planned to be substitued. As a result, if RCC pavement is preferred instead of surface coating used in Eskipazar village roads, costs are very close to each other. If bituminous hot mixture pavement is preferred, economic gains of 38.95% will be obtained and also continuous maintenance and repair costs due to freeze-thaw cycles especially observed in winter season and deformations caused by heavy-duty vehicles in forestry transport will be diminished.

2014 TARİHİ VE TURİSTİK MEKANLAR İÇİN AHŞAP OTOKORKULUK TASARIMI - WOODEN AUTO GUARDRAIL DESIGN FOR HISTORICAL AND TOURISTIC AREAS

2012 yılı istatistiklerine göre; Ülkemizdeki karayollarında meydana gelen yıllık trafik kazası sayısı bir milyon civarında olup 3750 ölü ve 268.079 civarında yaralı tespit edilmiştir. Genel istatistiksel verilere göre, araçların karayolundan dışarı çıkmasıyla meydana gelen kazalardaki can ve mal kaybı ise karayolundaki toplam kazaların yaklaşık %20’sini oluşturmaktadır. İmalat hızı, ekonomi, kullanım ömrü gibi sebeplere bağlı olarak Ülkemizde daha ziyade çelik ve beton oto korkuluklar tercih edilmektedir. Ancak estetik kaygısı taşımayan oto korkulukların kullanımı özellikle tarihi ve turistik mekânlara ulaşımı sağlayan yollarda tarihi dokuyu bozmakta, bu mekânların özellikleri ve güzelliklerini gölgeleyebilmektedir. Ülkemizde turizmin logosunun lale ile ifade ediliyor olmasından hareketle, tarihi ve turistik mekânlarda hem bir şehir mobilyası hem de oto korkuluk işlevi görecek olan “Lale şeklindeki ahşap oto korkuluk” tasarımının işlevsel olacağı düşünülmektedir. According to 2012 year statistics; in our country, around one million traffic accidents occurred and as a result 3750 dead and around 268.079 injured people. According to general statistic data’s, loss of life and property depend on the accidents that car leaves the pavement is about % 20 of total. In our country, depending on construction speed, economy, service life etc. generally steel and concrete guardrails have been preferred. But using guardrails that do not consider aesthetic, especially for the roads serving to historical and touristic areas, spoils the historical scene and over shades the beauties. In our country the logo of tourism is tulip and starting from this point of view, it is conceived to design “tulip shaped wooden auto guardrail” for historical and touristic areas to serve as both city furniture and auto guardrail.
